Find the instructions below on how to fit the locking shim — written and video.

Note: This cannot be used in conjunction with the Moveable Number Plate Light (Option 3). See other options here

The hardware you should have:

  • 8 x [M4 x 8mm]
  • 2 x [2mm thick washers]
  • 1 x [Locking Shim]
  • 1 x [Locking Shim spacer]

Step 1: Check you have the correct hardware:
  • 8 x [M4 x 8mm]
  • 2 x [2mm thick washers]
  • 1 x [Locking Shim]
  • 1 x [Locking Shim spacer]

Step 2: Remove the 8 existing M4x6mm  bolts that hold your hinges onto the bracket

Step 3: Replace those 8 bolts with the longer ones supplied.

Use the washers like in the photo. Note: I now provide a single spacer to replace the top 4 washers

Leave the two bottom holes for the moment. This is where the locking shim will be inserted.

The washers raise the hinges up so the shim can slide in behind them.

Step 4: Slide the shim in like so.

Use the remaining 2 bolts to affix it.

It is important to not fully tighten up the last two bolts, they need to just be loose enough that the shim can still slide up and down.

Step 5: Make sure the shim can slide up and down with some friction. Adjust the tightness of the bolts until this is the case.
